Resources for Professionals

Catholic Charities believes that information and awareness can be of a great benefit as individuals are confronted with various life situations.  There are many professionals in our community that are resources to individuals and families as they negotiate these challenges.  In order to be of assistance, staff is available for in-service training and consultation regarding services available to pregnant women and issues related to adoption.

Staff is well-versed in the many benefits of attachment and bonding that are so vital for the development of healthy family relationships. We are trained to facilitate the Nurturing Parenting Programs®, focusing on the teaching of the Prenatal and Teen Parent curriculums. In addition, we provide Infant Massage classes taught by a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI).  We are available to provide professionals with information about how these educational programs can help facilitate attachment and bonding for parents.

Frequently there are myths associated with adoption and that may lead to a number of misconceptions regarding the adoption process.  Our staff has extensive experience in offering services to all members of the adoption triad (birth parents, adoptive parents, and adoptees) and is knowledgeable about all aspects of the adoption process.  Since many children are being raised in adoptive homes, staff is available to a wide variety of professionals who desire to gain a better understanding related to the issues of adoption and thus be in a better position to serve their clients, students or patients.  Programs can be tailored to specific needs and audiences.

A program designed specifically for schools is available as a presentation to students.  Loving Education on Adoption and Parenting (LEAP) provides useful information to Middle School, High School, or College students who would like to learn more about the many facets of the adoption process.  The program is interactive where students have the opportunity to ask questions of a birth parent, adoptive parent and adoptee who have been joined in an adoption.  They also have the opportunity to learn more about what is meant by open adoption, birth parent adoption plan, the relinquishment of parental rights, and child centered services.
