November is Adoption Awareness Month
Catholic Charities has been providing adoption services for over 40 years, and once again we recognize November as National Adoption Awareness Month. Activities and celebrations are kicked off with a Presidential Proclamation, and while efforts made at the national level certainly help build awareness of adoption, participation in local programs, events, and activities by those of us with a direct connection to adoption can often be the most effective way to promote positive perceptions, debunk the myths, and draw attention to the children in need of permanent families.
The basic story behind National Adoption Month is that it started off as a week-long celebration in Massachusetts in 1976, before blossoming into the current month long celebration. The President of the United States always makes a proclamation to announce that November is National Adoption Month. Along with the month long celebration is the very special Adoption Day. This year November 20th will mark the 11th National Adoption Day. Catholic Charities will be commemorating the day with training prospective adoptive parents interested in our domestic infant adoption program. The Life Connections’ program was also honored to be the featured agency in the Adoption Exchange’s Prospective Parent Corner. Read Article Here
