Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program A Successful IRS Partnering
Catholic Charities of Central Colorado is pleased to receive a letter from Geraldine Malberg, a local Senior Tax Specialist for the IRS. In the letter, Malberg praised the successful partnering, between their Income Tax Assistance program and the IRS, that produced federal refunds totaling $115,209.
Malberg worked with Maryann Stadjuhar, Marian House Emergency and Transition Services Director, last year. Together they established the VITA–Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program for Catholic Charities in Colorado Springs. Maryann Stadjuhar’s husband, Bob, was the site coordinator.
The volunteers prepared over 90 federal and state tax returns. The average
income of their clients was $19,812. They produced federal refunds totaling $115,209. The Earned Income Credit dollars they secured for people was $42,874; and they saved over 90 low-income families and individuals an average private tax preparer fee of $150.00.
Geraldine Malberg’s letter encourages the charitable organization to continue assisting with tax returns stating, “I will help you in any way I can to keep the VITA program active at Catholic Charities in Colorado Springs.”
