Marian House Art Reception this Thursday, October 14
The “Guardian” sculpture, created and donated by Ruth Burink, will be officially unveiled at a reception on October 14th from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. Ms. Burink, a professional stone sculptor, donated the statue to Marian House Life Support Services. It will be permanently located in the main entryway of the Hanifen Center at Marian House. The evening cocktail reception will not only celebrate this new addition to the “Art Gallery at Marian House,” but also gives the community an opportunity to view the art collections that have become quite numerous.
The entire Marian House complex will be open for viewing. If you have not had an opportunity to visit the New Marian House, please plan to attend this art reception, which is open to the public. (Please RSVP to 719-866-6422 before October 10th.)
The Marian House is becoming known as a showcase for all forms of art. The large, expansive walls, with lots of color, make for a prime exhibition opportunity. In the Family Dining Room, art from the Fine Arts Center Youth at Risk program is on display, and is rotated several times a year.
The main dining room features art created by kids from FutureSelf, which provides art workshops for youth. The largest work of art, Jesus with a soup bowl, is an IlluminArt piece created by Catholic Charities staff, volunteers, and Board of Directors. Client art is also featured.
The Hanifen Center also showcases various art. Recently, an IlluminArt created by the Artimis group was unveiled. Additionally, a collection of historical Marian House pieces adorn the walls, such as the original door from the old Marian House Chapel.
